Frequently Asked Questions with Dr. Swathi - FAQ #7: What Are Cannabinoids?
Cannabis contains countless compounds, over 100 of which have been identified as cannabinoids. CBD and THC are considered the major cannabinoids found in cannabis, as they are usually available in the highest concentrations in contrast to the minor cannabinoids (for example, cannabinol, CBN, and cannabigerol, CBG). Interestingly, the cannabis plant does not directly make many of the cannabinoids that are sought after but instead produce a cannabinoid acid that when “activated,” usually by heat, create the cannabinoids with which we are most familiar. Of the variety of cannabinoids with published and ongoing research, it has been demonstrated that each one has its distinct set of therapeutic benefits in the human body.
